New Delhi, Dec 28: India’s oldest political party – Congress – is celebrating its 134th foundation day on Friday.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi hoisted flag national at party’s headquarters in the national capital and paid his respects to the long history of the vibrant political movement.
To mark the celebrations, Former Prime Minister Dr.Manmohan Singh and Rahul Gandhi also cut a cake.
Senior Congress leaders including Kapil Sibal, Shashi Tharoor, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma and other attended the event.
The congress said it will stand by values of non-violence, quoting in another tweet words of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, the first Home Minister of India, where he said, “the measure of our non-violence will be the measure of our success”.
In another tweet, it quoted the ideal of “love and sacrifice” for the country espoused by Sarojini Naidu, an eminent poetess, freedom fighter and Congress leader.
On this day in 1885, the Congress was founded by a British civil servant Allan Octavian Hume
Hume was a noted ornithologist and is considered to be “the Father of Indian Ornithology”.
