New Delhi, Aug 8: Congress cornered the government over recent attack on vice president Rahul Gandhi’s car in Gujarat, called it “a cowardly act”.
Speaking in Lok Sabha, Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of attack on Rahul Gandhi’s car and described it a cowardly act and alleged that the government turned a blind eye to the incident, adding he could have been killed in Gujarat where stones were pelted on his car.
In response to this, Home minister Rajnath Singh Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi didn’t listened to security officials and the state police due to which incident took place.
Rajnath Singh stated Gujarat Police was already informed about Gandhi’s visit two days before he traveled to the state.
“Rahul Gandhi is under SPG protection. The state police had made adequate arrangement for the visit. He was even provided a bullet-proof car. But he opted for a non-bullet proof vehicle. He should have listened to the advice of security personnel. But he did not,” he asserted.
Referring to recent foreign tours of Gandhi, Singh stated “In the last two years, Rahul Gandhi was out for 72 days on 6 foreign tours, but didn’t take SPG cover.”
He asked “We want to know where did he go? Why didn’t he take SPG cover ?
The incident would not have occurred, if the Congress vice president used the vehicle which was provided by the police.
After this ruckus created in the lower house of the Parliament, which led to adjournment of the session for the day.
