New Delhi, July 7 : Congress chief spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala lambasted Narendra Modi government for its faulty economic policies and said despite the bumper crops, the exports of groundnut has declined .

Prime Minister is responsible for the decline in the exports of groundnut in 2017-18.

The Congress leader accused the BJP governments at the Centre and in states such as Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh where groundnut is being produced, of neglecting farmers, and attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for failing to fulfil his promise of uplifting the farmers income .

To resolve the groundnut stockpile crisis in Gujarat, the Chairman and top officials of the Indian Oilseeds & Produce Export Promotion Council (IOPEPC) will hold a  meet on Saturday with the stakeholders in Rajkot. The meet is important for groundnut processors, crushers/oil millers, exporters and traders where  the apprehensions of trade will be addressed.

In value terms also groundnut exports declined to Rs. ₹3384 crores during this period from ₹5444 crores in the corresponding period of 2017-18.

The declining groundnut exports warrant an immediate support. But , Surjewala said the Modi government in unconcerned over the  deteriorating condition of farmers in the country.
