Given the packed schedule of the Indian Premier League (IPL), it’s extremely hard for teams to gain momentum. Teams play a game on one night, fly out of the city the next day and play a game again. It helps then, that Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab, the teams that will face off against each on May 4, secured crucial wins in their previous fixtures.
With the elections done in Kolkata, the hosts are set to enjoy a prolonged home run and will now play four matches at a stretch at the iconic Eden Gardens.
While this comes as an opportunity for them to consolidate their position in the top half of the table, there are some serious concerns for Knight Riders. Their death bowling has been dismal, and cost them the game against Delhi Daredevils. In their last outing, against Royal Challengers Bangalore, it took exceptional efforts from Andre Russell and Yusuf Pathan to earn a much-needed victory.
Kings XI on the other hand, made a stunning comeback in the game against table-toppers Gujarat Lions, thanks to a hat-trick from Axar Patel, to inject life into their dying campaign. With Murali Vijay taking over captaincy, good run of form from David Miller could help Kings XI well and truly revive their season.
