New Delhi, Oct 1: Chief Justice of India-designate Justice Ranjan Gogoi on Monday said that outgoing CJI Dipak Misra upheld individual freedom.
“Justice Misra has upheld freedom of the individual to choose and express choice. Cases like Shakti Vahini, Shafin Jahan and Navtej Johar involved individual’s liberty to choose his choice in form of a partner whom society doesn’t approve”, Justice Gogoi stated ion his address at farewell function to the outgoing CJI.
“The Supreme Court has all committed judges and they will stay committed. We are here to comment on the career of CJI Dipak Misra; he is a remarkable judge”, he added.
The Chief Justice of India-Designate praised the outgoing CJI Misra saying that he has displayed remarkable erudition and fortitude ever since he was elevated to the bench.
On September 13, President Ram Nath Kovind had appointed Justice Ranjan Gogoi as the next Chief Justice of India.
He will assume office on October 3 after the retirement of the current Chief Justice, Justice Dipak Misra.
Justice Gogoi will have a term of 13 months 15 days.
