New Delhi, Nov 12: Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala on Sunday called his party’s triumph in the Chitrakoot bypoll, an indication of change and thanked the people for showcasing their faith in the party.
Surjewala said “The winds of change are in the air. Many thanks to the people of Chitrakoot for their faith and trust in the Congress party”.
After 19 rounds of vote counting, Congress candidate Nilanshu Chaturvedi was declared elected to the Madhya Pradesh Assembly from Chitrakoot constituency on Sunday, defeating BJP candidate Shankar Dayal Tripathi by over 14000 votes.
The election was called on November 9 after the death of Congress legislator Prem Singh. A total of 12 candidates contested the poll including nine independent, but the main fight was between Chaturvedi and Tripathi.
