As the government is looking for alternatives to replace the pellet guns because of the massive eye injuries caused by pellet guns in Jammu and Kashmir while controlling the mob, an expert panel of the home ministry has suggested to replace it with newly developed PAVA shells.
PAVA shells are non-lethal munition from Chile and it temporarily incapacitates the targets and renders them immobile for minutes.
But the Central Reserve police Force is not in favour of replacing the pellet guns with PAVA shells for controlling mob.
At a press conference towards the end of his two-day Kashmir tour, Rajnath Singh conceded a popular demand, saying that an alternative to the use of pellet guns as a tool to control unruly mobs would be found “in a few days”.
Final decision is yet to be taken as 7 member panel involving officers from Home Ministry, BSF, CRPF, J&K Police and ordinance factory Board are considering the alternative of pellet guns.
PAVA shells when used against protesters, will severely irritate and paralyze humans, temporarily.
