Chikungunya spreads in Delhi, death toll climbs to 4


Three new death cases has been recorded due to Chikungunya in the national capital. At least 10 people have died of dengue and malaria and hospitals are overflowing with patients.

Earlier, a 65-year old man died due to Chikungunya in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital of Delhi on Monday.

The viral disease is usually non-fatal but hospitals say they are getting many patients of the disease with severe manifestation of the illness, including brain infections.

The man was identified as R Pandey, was shifted to the hospital in Delhi on Saturday around 10:30 pm in a critical condition, and he passed away Monday around 4:30 am.

The municipal corporation data shows dengue, chikungunya and malaria has affected 1158, 1,057 and 21 people, respectively. But these numbers are misleading. Overall , 18 patients with confirmed Chikungunya in SGR Hospital.

According to experts there is no specific treatment for Chikungunya. Administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and getting plenty of rest can only be beneficial.
