Chhattisgarh: Three infants die at Raipur hospital allegedly due to drop in oxygen supply

New Delhi, Aug 21: Three infants undergoing treatment at B R Ambedkar Hospital in Raipur lost their lives on Sunday night allegedly due to drop in oxygen pressure during its supply to the intensive care unit.

However, after the report came into the limelight the Director of Health Services R Prasanna claimed that the children died because of various illnesses, not drop in oxygen pressure, according to news agency ANI.

“Yesterday there was a drop in oxygen pressure, there was no cut in oxygen supply. CMO and Superintendent immediately intervened, sorted the issue. Death of children are due to illness, information will be shared shortly,” Prasanna stated.

As per the Indian Express report, a operator who is in-charge of the oxygen supply, after he was found drunk while on duty has been suspended.

Hours after the incident, Chief Minister Raman Singh ordered a probe and expressed displeasure over the deaths.

The deaths seems to be similar recently occurred tragedy at the state-run  Gorakhpur’s Baba Raghav Das Medical College and Hospital, where over  60 children have died since August 7 due to negligence of the administration as there was also lack of oxygen supply.
