Chhattisgarh: 2 police personnel, 9 Naxals killed in Sukma Encounter

Sukma, Nov 26: Nine Naxals and two Chhattisgarh police personnel were killed in an encounter in Sukma district on Monday.

The gunfight took place near Saklar village under Kistaram police station area.

“District Reserve Guard (DRG) team reached Saklar this morning & an encounter started at around 9:40 am. It continued for around 1 & half hour. Dozens of Naxals probably killed. 9 bodies of Naxals recovered. 2 Naxals were carrying a reward of Rs 8 lakh”, DM Awasthi told media

A total of 1200 security personnel from STF, DRG, CRPF’s CoBRA and special teams from Telangana took part in ‘Operation Prahar-4’.

The operation was launched yesterday in Battalion 1 area of Naxals in Saletong, Bade Kedwal, Sakler and nearby areas.

The police also recovered a huge cache of weapons and IEDs from the Maoists.

“Arms, ammunition, IEDs have been recovered.We had information that Naxals threw some weapons in a pond near Sakler also. Forces tried to recover the weapons and entered the pond also. During this, Naxals again opened fire in the afternoon & 2 DRG jawans lost their lives”, Awasthi added.
