Chaos in RS after Digvijaya Singh raises Goa govt formation issue

New Delhi, March 17, 2017: Protesting against the formation of the government in Goa and calling it unconstitutional, Congress MPs stormed to the well in Rajya Sabha today, forcing Deputy Speaker PJ Kurien to adjourn the House.

The ruckus in the upper house of Parliament began after Congress MP Digvijaya Singh raised the Goa issue by accusing Governor Mridula Sinha of inviting the BJP to form the government despite the Congress being the single-largest party.

Digvijaya Singh said, “Sinha had made a public statement of having spoken to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for consultation before inviting Manohar Parrikar to form the government.”

On which Kurien replied that “The Governor’s conduct can only be discussed on the basis of a substantive motion.” Apparently, Parliamentary Affairs Minister MA Naqvi said the government is ready for a discussion “if the Congress brings a substantive motion”.

On Thursday, Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar won the trust vote by 22-16 in the in 40-member state Assembly.

However, after the floor test, Congress leader also lamented that money power proved stronger than people’s power finally.
