Chandrababu Naidu, Son and TDP leaders Under House Arrest Amid Protest Against YSR Congress

Amaravati, Sep 11: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief N Chandrababu Naidu and his son, Nara Lokesh have been put under preventive detention at their house and are not being allowed to meet media. TDP leaders had planned to protest against the YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy’s government which has completed 100 days in power last week.

Instead, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) of Jagan Mohan Reddy has organised ‘Chalo Atmakur’ rally on Wednesday against alleged political violence by YSRCP.

The YSR Congress Part will expose the alleged misdeeds of TDP leaders and the “victims of the previous TDP term will narrate the “terror tales of Chandrababu Naidu-led government”.

Former TDP MLA Tangirala Sowmya house arrested at Nandigama town after Sowmya and other TDP leaders sat on protest in front of her house for party’s ‘Chalo Atmakur’ rally against YSRCP. Former Andhra Pradesh Minister and TDP leader Bhuma Akhila Priya taken into preventive detention by police at Novotel hotel.

Terming the arrest of TDP leaders as “dark day in democrcay,” Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu said he will sit on a fast till 8 pm today against the arrest of his son Nara Lokesh and several leaders of his Telugu Desam Party (TDP) .

TDP leaders and workers who were trying to go to Chandrababu Naidu’s residence stopped by police and taken into preventive custody.

“To counter the false propaganda, YSRCP will organise ‘Chalo Atmakur’ on where the victims of the previous TDP Ministers, MLAs and Speaker will narrate their tale of woes and show the world how the ruling party has harassed the Opposition party leaders and supporters then,” the statement from YSRCP read.

The party stated while Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is working towards “bringing in a corruption free and transparent government”, Naidu has been “trying to create imaginary situation and manufacture dissent by raking up non-issues”.

New Delhi, Feb 19 : Former Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Nripendra Mishra has been appointed chief of of temple construction committee while Mahant Nritya Gopal Das was named Chairman of Ram Mandir Trust at the first meeting of Ram Janmabhoomi Tritha Kshetra Trust held here on Wednesday.

Champat Rai, the international Vice President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has been appointed the General Secretary while Govind Dev Giri Ji Maharaj the Treasurer.

It was decided in the meeting that a joint account would be opened at a State Bank of India branch in Ayodhya. A total of nine resolutions were passed in the meeting, and another meeting would be held again after 15 days in Ayodhya. The construction committee will decide when the construction will begin.

Chartered accountancy firm, V. Sankar Aiyar & Co in anjit Nagar here, was entrusted with the responsibilty of deciding on the mode of donation.

New Chairman of the trust, Nritya Gopal Das said Ram Temple model would be the same as decided by the VHP “but a discussion would take place on making it higher and wider”.

Among those also present in the meeting that lasted about three hours were Mahant Dinendra Das, Joint Secretary, Home, Gyanesh Kumar, Anil Kumar Mishra, Vasudevanand Saraswati, Uttar Pradesh’s Additional Principal Secretary Avneesh Awasthi, Parmanand Ji Maharaj, Ayodhya district officer Anuj Jha, Kameshwar Chaupal, Balendra Mohan Singh Mohan Mishra of thee Ayodhya royal family.

The Mahant of the Nirvani Ani of Vaishnava Vairagi Akharas, Dharmadas of Hanumangarhi in Ayodhya, also reached the spot during the trust meeting. However, he was not a part of the meeting and was seated in another room outside. Mahant Dharmadas had been demanding since long to join the trust.

According to sources, he has also spoken of approaching the court in case he is not included in the trust and not given the right to worship Ram Lalla.

New Delhi, Feb 19 : Another Jamia Milia Islamia student here on Wednesday filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Delhi High Court seeking Rs 1 crore compensation over alleged police brutality on campus on December 15.

The plea, filed by Md. Mustafa through advocate Nabila Hassan, seeks the court’s direction to the Delhi Chief Secretary, the Home Department and the Department of Law to pay the compensation and provide free medical treatment.

The plea also sought directions to the respondents to register an FIR against the Delhi Police over its alleged brutality on campus.

New Delhi, Feb 19 : Lashing out at the government for its lack of focus, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday termed the Centre’s hopes of turning India into a $5 trillion economy by 2024-25 as “wishful thinking”.

“Today the government does not want to acknowledge the word slowdown. This is not a good sign,” he said after releasing “Backstage – The Story Behind India’s High Growth Years” by former Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia.

“In such a scenario, raising India to become a $5 trillion economy by 2024-25 is wishful thinking”, he said.

Pathways can emerge only through solid dialogue and discussions on the challenges of taking the country forward, he added.

At the same time, he expressed the hope that there will be a debate for carrying forward the economic reforms innitiated.
