Chandan Mitra joins TMC

Kolkata, July 21: Former Rajya Sabha MP Chandan Mitra and Senior Journalist Chandan Mitra on Saturday joined Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Last week on July 18, Mitra has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Meanwhile, Former CPM MP Moinul Hasan, Congress’s Sabina Yasmin and Mizoram advocate-general Biswajit Deb also joined the TMC.

Chandan Mitra was a prominent face of the BJP in Delhi circles and is considered as a close aide of Veteran BJP leader L K Advani and when BJP came to power in 2014, Mitra reportedly felt sidelined under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.

He had also openly criticised Modi government for the faulty policies that led to the BJP defeat in recently held Uttar Pradesh’s Kairana by-polls.

The Rajya Sabha MP even targeted the Centre for not paying adequate attention to the issue of sugarcane farmers.

Mitra was nominated to Rajya Sabha from 2003 to 2009 after which the BJP had elected him as a Madhya Pradesh MP from June 2010 to 2016.
