New Delhi, Sep 13: Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Wednesday said the central government wants petrol and diesel to come under the Goods and Services tax, adding the move will bring predictability to cost.
Speaking to media, Petroleum Minister also stated there was a downfall of 13% in refinery production due to Texas Hurricane, adding that the crude oil price will cool down soon.
His remarks comes at the time when petrol and diesel prices at three-year highs.
As Petrol prices in Mumbai climbs to Rs 79.48, the highest among the four major cities. Kolkata followed behind at Rs. 73.12. While in Delhi it is priced at Rs. 70.38 and Chennai sold at Rs 72.95, according to the Indian Oil Corporation.
On June 6, the government launched the daily price change mechanism that saw petrol and diesel prices undergo revision on daily basis. The prices are revised every day according to crude price movements.
