NEW DELHI, 24 Nov: In a major move, chief secretary KK Sharma has been transferred to the Centre. He is slated to take charge as secretary department of higher education in the ministry of human resources development.
Now Aam Aadmi Party will look out a new incumbent for the critical post at a time when the bureaucracy has faced many hurdles with many senior officers transferred and some of AAP government’s trusted men going on study leave or moving to the Centre or other union territory postings.
KK Sharma was appointed as chief secretary in 2015 after the Centre dismissed chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s choice IAS officer Ramesh Negi.
Kejriwal remained on his earlier decision but later agreed to Sharma as his second choice. The Ministry of Home Affairs had rejected Negi’s name owing to issues of seniority.
Sharma had served in Delhi government earlier too in various departments including Public Works Department during the 2010 Commonwealth games. He is scheduled to retire next year.
However, his stint in the government since 2015 has had its own fare share of turbulence with the government serving him a show cause notice at one stage when the officers were in the firing line in the middle of battle of LG and Centre over the powers of the state versus the Centre.
