New Delhi, Sep 26: In a bid to compete with the global rollout of 5G, the Indian government has set up a High Level 5G India 2020 Forum, Communications Minister Manoj Sinha said here on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, Sinha asserted “We want to keep pace with the global technology adoption. India does not want to stay behind in 5G rollout. That is the reason we have constituted this committee”.
“5G will amplify GDP, create job opportunities and digitise the economy,” he added.
The central government will create a corpus of Rs 500 crore for 5G rollout.
Three secretaries from the Department of Telecommunications, IT and Electronics and Science and Technologies Ministries will lead the “High Level 5G Forum ”
The forum will complement the eco-system by focused actions in research ecosystem, regulatory framework and inclusive business environment.
It will constitute a number of Steering Committees in different domains.
Sinha further said: “5G will provide high internet speed ”
Speaking about the call drop issue, the minister said the Telecom Secretary will take stock of the matter every 15 days.
