New Delhi, Oct 25: The Congress party will stage a countrywide protest on 26 October over the ongoing Central Bureau of Investigation controversy.
The party leaders will protest outside the CBI offices in different states.
Senior Congress leader Randeep Surjewala told media that his party will also hold demonstrations before the CBI HQ in New Delhi
In the wake of protests, the authorities have increased security outside the probe agency’s headquarters.
Following an internal dispute, the central government divested the CBI director Alok Verma and special and Rakesh Asthana respectively from their roles and sent both of them on leave.
M. Nageshwar Rao was directed to look after the duties and functions of Director, CBI with immediate effect on Wednesday.
Asthana, a 1984 batch Indian Police Service officer of the Gujarat cadre is accused of accepting a bribe from a Hyderabad-based businessman Sathish Babu Sana who was under the scanner in the Qureshi case in order to “wreck” the probe.
The case was being examined by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Asthana.
