In an eyebrow raising move the CBI has transfered 20 of its Special Vyapam scam branch officers to Delhi in a single day. Despite pendency of more than 50 cases related to the scam.
According to a news published in Times of India all these officers has been transfered to delhi to probe agency’s anti-corruption branch in Delhi. The peculiar and sudden acCBI transfered 20 officers from its Vyapam team, Congress questions the movetion by CBI has made the opposition to question the transfers.
“The Congress had demanded a CBI inquiry into Vyapam scam with a lot of hope, but it ended up giving a clean chit to many of those who controlled the scam. I think they should close this branch,” said Congress spokesperson KK Mishra.
However clearfying the move the a CBI officer said,“In more than 100 cases, people have been chargesheeted and trials are on. Some officials will be transferred as a matter of routine. There’s no reason to shut down the branch.”
After the opposition pressurised the case of Vyapam Scam was sent to CBI for further investigation and a 40-member team was formed by the CBI director.
Times of India’s source told that initially the many officers from different areas of the country showed there interest in the case but it wasn’t long before some officers began asking to be sent back to their parent posting, say sources.
A section of officers believes it will take two decades to get to the bottom of India’s biggest recruitment scam.
