CBI-Kolkata Police Faceoff: Agency files affidavit in Supreme Court

New Delhi, Feb 5: Two days after its attempt to question Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar in chit funds scam, the Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday filed alleging there are several incriminating material/correspondence that was collected during the investigation by the CBI against the senior police officials as well as senior politicians.

According to the affidavit, Investigation was being done by SIT and crucial evidence such as laptops, mobile phones etc were handed over to the main accused in Saradha scam case by the investigating officer of WB police working under direct supervision of Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar.

Return of crucial evidence to main accused by the SIT, despite regular monitoring by HC, clearly show connivance of SIT to a larger conspiracy wherein local authorities obstructed probe and attempted to destroy evidence prior to transfer of the case to the CBI by the apex court, the probe agency stated in a submitted document.

Yesterday Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar had filed petition in Kolkata HC seeking interim relief.

Following this, today the High Court postponed the case as the matter between WB Police and CBI is sub-judice in the Supreme Court. Next hearing will take place on Thursday, 7 Feburary.
