Guwahati, July 20: Nineteen government officials including a daughter of BJP MP, were held in connection with cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC).
Among those arrested is Pallabi Sarma, daughter of BJP’s Lok Sabha MP RP Sharma, from Tezpur, While others are -13 ACS officers, three APS officer, and three allied service officials.
All the accused have been sent to 11 days police remand on Thursday.
The Dibrugarh Police, which is investigating the cash-for-jobs scam in the APSC held in 2016, had summoned the officers of the Assam Civil Service (ACS), Assam Police Service (APS) and allied services to appear for handwriting tests after forensic examinations of their answer sheets indicated anomalies.
“Their handwriting did not match with their answer sheets, which were found to be fake during forensic tests”, PTI quoted Superintendent of Police, Dibrugarh, Gautam Bora.
As per the Hindu report, the State government dismissed 13 arrested State civil services officers from service for their alleged involvement in the scam on June 21. They were undergoing probation when they were arrested in November 2017 and presently they are lodged in the Guwahati Central Jail.
