Cash expense limit set per candidate in 5 states

New Delhi, January 4: The Election Commission of India on Wednesday defined the poll campaign expense limit per candidate at between Rs 20 lakh and Rs 28 lakh this year.

The five states– Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Manipur will have assembly polls this year. The date and schedule for assembly elections is announced today by Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi today.

Announcing the limit, CEC Zaidi said: “In Goa and Manipur the limit on election expenses per candidate is Rs 20 lakh.”

“In Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand the election expenses limit per candidate is Rs 28 lakh,” the CEC said.
