By Election: Congress wins RR Nagar Seat with huge margin


Bengaluru, May 31: The Congress on Thursday clinched Rajarajeshwari Nagar assembly constituency with a huge margin.

Party candidate Muniratna has won by 41162 votes.

Speaking to ANI, Senior Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao said: ” We won the RR Nagar seat with huge margin, the people of Bengaluru have blessed us”.

“Munirathna won the election by over 25,000 votes after completion of all the 18 rounds of counting,” Karnataka Joint Chief Electoral Officer K.N. Ramesh told IANS here.

In the fiercely-fought contest, Munirathna retained the seat by defeating Tulasi Muniraju Gowda of the BJP and G.H. Ramachandra of the Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S).

Around 54 per cent voting was recorded on May 28 when polling was held after it was deferred from May 12 due to reports of electoral malpractice in the sector.

The constituency has 4.7 lakh electorate.
