Indore, MP, Sept 2 : Placing the Centre in the cross-hairs over the contentious Rafale fighter jet deal, senior Congress leader and former Union minister Kapil Sibal today alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is under impression that he could succeed in indulging in corruption in the name of security but the party would not let it happen.
What kind of national interest is the Prime Minister pursuing by purchasing the fighter jet planes at three times higher price? Mr. Sibal told media persons here today.
Taking strong exception over the comparison of Rafale deal to Bofors scam, he said that the court had ultimately exonerated all the accused in the case following a long, drawn-out trial.
On the contrary, the Rafale deal smacks of a massive corruption prima facie aimed to benefit a private company owned by a big industrialist, said, Mr Sibal.
Pointing out that the Centre ought to be accountable to the opposition, he criticised the Premier for being evasive instead of being forthright and straightforward.
Showing certain documents related to the deal, Mr. Sibal said that the Centre’s claim that additional payments were made for add-ons – is completely wide of the mark. The deal clearly mentioned that the configuration would be similar to 2008 deal by the United Progressive Alliance Government.
