Lucknow, Oct 20: Ahead of Ayodhya verdict, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Gajraj Rana has ordered the Hindu community to “buy swords instead of utensils on Dhanteras”.
Expressing confidence that the Supreme Court verdict on the Ayodhya issue will be in favour of the Ram temple, Gajraj Rana asked members of the Hindu community in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoband to “buy swords made of iron instead of utensils on Dhanteras”.
He, however justified is statement that a favourable judgement can vitiate the atmosphere, so it is advisable to stock iron swords instead of gold jewellery and silver vessels.
Dhanteras is celebrated every year before the festival of Diwali and as per tradition, people buy utensils or other items made of metal. This year, Dhanteras will be observed on October 25.
When asked he said “My statement was in reference to the current changing environment and an advise to the members of my community. Nothing more should be read into it.”
Meanwhile, the BJP has distanced itself from the controversial statement made by Rana.
