Businessman Dinanath Rai shot dead in Bihar

Patna, Dec 26: A businessman, identified as Dinanath Rai, was shot dead in Vaishali district of Bihar and another seriously injured in Araria Wednesday.

The attack comes close on the heels of a spree of killings last week that still remain unsolved.

Dinanath Rai, a transporter from Patna, was shot dead and his body was thrown near the Circuit House close to the Sadar police station, Vaishali Superintendent of Police Manavjit Singh Dhillon told media.

In the other incident, an egg trader was injured and said to be critical after being shot at in Farbisganj.

He has been shifted to a hospital in Purnea district after his condition deteriorated, according to a district police official.

On Monday, hundreds of businessmen and traders conducted a candle light march in Patna on Monday to protest the killing of a young businessman.

In the recent past, Bihar has witnessed several similar incidents.

Businessman, K P Shahi was shot dead by bike-borne assailants in Bihar’s Darbhanga on Saturday.

Prior to this, Businessman Gunjan Khemja, was shot dead in Hajipur on December 20.

Son of Patna’s famous businessman Gopal Khemka, was attacked on way to his factory in Hajipur, about 30 km from Patna.

On the same day, a constable of Bihar Military Police named Manish Kumar was shot dead by a colleague with his service rifle in Muzaffarpur district.

Prior to this, a Patna High Court lawyer was killed by motorcycle-borne criminals in Rajvanshi Nagar on December 5 in a broad daylight.

Following the incidents, Bihar opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav hit out at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar saying law and order was “in ICU in the state”.

“One after another half a dozen businessmen have been killed in Bihar in the last few days but where are those who used to protest ‘jungleraj’ in Bihar? Why are they keeping silent now?” Tejashwi said.
