October, 3: From the last few months, Dengue and Chikungunya had been diagnosed in every second person. The mosquito-borne disease has infected 1,590 residents in several parts of the country.
The dengue has infected a total of 1,103 while 490 others were diagnosed with chikungunya. The total troll has counted to 1,590 in September at an average of 53 cases per day and 750 cases in August.
“In August we had treated 168 patients. The number dipped to 125 in September. Now, we have 13 dengue patients in our hospital,” said Sambit Das, medical head at Fortis Hospital.
Moreover, private hospitals have reported 889 cases while government has diagnosed over 214 cases and currently approx 15% of the beds are occupied by dengue and the death toll has been 41 now.
These two diseases has taken the cities in grip since July and the problem is more critical when a growing population lives in crowded conditions.
