Budget Session: Opposition leaders protest against CAA, NRC outside Parliament

New Delhi, Jan 31: Opposition leaders including Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi protest in front of Gandhi statue in Parliament premises, against Citizenship law (CAA), NPR and NRC.

Opposition leaders raised slogans “save Constitution, save Democracy” , “No to CAA,NPR,NRC”.

All India Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, and Bahujan Samaj Party were not part of the protest.

Copies of the Economic Survey have been brought to Parliament complex. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will table the Economic Survey 2019-20 today.
Ahead of the beginning of the Budget Session, leaders of several opposition parties will meet at 9:30 am in Parliament on Friday to deliberate on the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), the National Population Register (NPR), and Jamia firing incident. As per reports, the leaders will exchange views on the strategy to target the government during the session.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who attended an all-party meeting called by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, alleged that the Centre was “least bothered” about the people protesting against CAA and NRC. “The government is least bothered about people protesting on streets over CAA and NRC. This shows their arrogance. They are not bothered about farmers too. The Opposition wants that these issues be discussed too and the government should be sensitive about it.”

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu will chair a meeting of floor leaders of Rajya Sabha at his residence today.
The Bharatiya Janata Party Executive Committee meeting will take place in the Parliament Library at 2 pm. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting will likely take place in the Parliament Library at 3:30 pm.
