Jammu, Oct 27, 2016: A BSF jawan was killed and at least seven civilians were wounded in heavy shelling between Indian and Pakistani soldiers today in Jammu district’s R.S.Pura sector of the International Border (IB).
“The jawan, a head constable, received splinter injuries in the ceasefire violation and succumbed to his injuries,” a senior BSF official said.
The jawan identified as Jitendra Kumar was a native of Motihari district in Bihar.
The police official said “seven persons including five women belonging to two families of Goparbasti village of R.S.Pura sector were injured overnight as Pakistan Rangers targeted civilian areas.”
Intermittent shelling and firing exchanges which were started late Wednesday night is still ongoing in the sector.
“After Pakistan Rangers used 82 mm mortar shells to target civil and Border Security Forces (BSF) facilities in R.S.Pura, the BSF retaliated effectively using same calibre weapons,” police sources added.
“Shelling and firing exchanges took place in Korotana Kurd, Bidipur, Jattan, Abdullian, Chandu Chak, Shamka and Hansu Chak areas.”
