Bodoland student leader shot dead in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 1 : Tension gripped parts of Assam after two unidentified assailants shot dead Lafikul Islam, president of the All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union (ABMSU), on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said two motorcycle-borne assailants shot at Lafikul in Basugaon area in Kokrajhar district around 3.30 p.m. from close range. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Two people have been detained so far in this connection.

Later in the day, ABMSU supporters blocked roads by burning tyres and shouted slogans in Basugaon and other adjoining areas, protesting the killing.

Leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia condemned the murder and termed it “a failure on the part of the state government to maintain law and order”.

“Late Islam boldly raised his voice against various injustice meted out to people living in Bodoland Territorial Areas Districts by the government as well as by a section of people,” said Saikia, while demanding action against the assailants.

Civilian injured in accidental firing at J&K militant’s funeral

Srinagar, July 22 (IANS) A civilian was injured on Sunday in an accidental firing during the funeral of a slain militant in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, informed sources said.

Eyewitnesses said civilian Fayaz Ahmad was injured in the foot in Katrasoo village when the rifle of a militant went off accidentally during the funeral of Mudaser Bhat, who along with two others were killed in Khudwani area of the district in a gunfight with security forces earlier.

The injured was shifted to a Srinagar hospital.

Five-storey building collapses in Ghaziabad, magisterial inquiry ordered

Gaziabad, July 22:A five-storey under-construction building collapsed on Sunday near Missal Gadi in Ghaziabad and there are fears of several labourers being trapped under the debris.A magisterial inquiry has been ordered.

Four people were injured in the incident and teams from the fire department and National Disaster Management Force have been rushed to the spot. Rescue operations are underway.

Ghaziabad DM Ritu Maheshwari said, “Prima facie, there seems to be issues with quality of the building. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered. 7 people have been rescued and sent to hospital. There is no casualty as of now. Rescue ops are underway.”

 

 

Just five days before two buildings fell down in Greater Noida’s Shahberi Beri village, claiming nine lives.

Recently,two six-storey buildings in Shahberi village, one of which was under construction, collapsed around 9.15 pm. Prima facie investigation found out that the building layout plans were not approved by the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA).

Posters showing Rahul Hugging PM Modi emerge in Mumbai

Mumbai, July 22 : Several posters carrying the image of Congress president Rahul Gandhi hugging Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lok Sabha have come up in Mumbai. The posters, which have been put by the Congress workers, also has a tagline that reads, “Nafrat se nahi, Pyar se jeetenge (we will win by love, not hatred).”

Rahul’s gesture was hailed by his party leaders as “Jaadu ki Jhappi (magical hug)” and  Shiv Sena, NDA ally at the Centre and in Maharashtra equated the no-confidence motion, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi  with the FIFA World Cup final and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi might have emerged victorious like France, but Congress chief Rahul Gandhi won many hearts like runners-up Croatia. The Sena had abstained from the debate on the no-trust motion and the voting.

 

Rahul garnered huge attention during the discussion on no-confidence motion on July 20 after he walked up to the Prime Minister and hugged him after concluding his fiery speech.

During his fiery rhetorical speech, Rahul attacked the Modi government and said, “I will take out this hatred out of you and turn it into love and turn it into love. I am the Congress. You taught me what it means to be a Hindustani, what it means to be a Hindu. It means to love somebody even if they attack you.”
