Boat carrying dozens capsizes in Indonesia, 7 missing

Jakatrta, Oct 8: At least seven reported missing after a boat carrying dozens of people capsizes in East Java province of Indonesia, an official of disaster agency said on Saturday.

It is said the boat sunk in Bengawan Solo river in the border of Lamongan and Tuban districts on Friday, due to overloading, Xinhua news agency quoted Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the disaster management agency, as saying.

However, Low visibility in the deep water has hampered the search and rescue operation but still it managed to rescue 18 people safely, Sutopo added.

Boat is considered as favourite means of transport in Indonesia, but due to lack of safety standards, accidents have been increased.
