New Delhi, Aug 10, 2017: Union minister Babul Supriyo sparked up a controversy on Tuesday after he backed Chandigarh stalking case by saying that the case is not that of abduction, but rather that of a drunk man chasing a woman.

The BJP minister in a series of tweets said:

He questioned why the accused Vikas Barala’s father, Haryana BJP unit chief Subhash Barala was being dragged into the case.

His controversial comment recevied backlashes from all around. When he was asked by The Wire’s social media editor, Karnika Kohli.

Supriyo later deleted the reply and instead said that both the victim and the accused need to be asked about what happened in reality.

On Saturday, Barala’s son Vikas along with his accomplice, Ashish was nabbed by police on charges of stalking and harassing a woman under Section 354 D (stalking) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 185 (Motor Vehicle Act) of the CrPC  in Chandigarh and he got bail on the same day.

Both the accused are Law students.
