New Delhi, Aug 2: Senior advocate and Congress leader taking a jibe at the Bhartiya Janta Party over Income Tax raids at Karnataka Minister DK Shivakumar’s residence said the saffron unit want no one on the opposition benches.
“They want no one on the opposition benches and want everyone with BJP. Won’t let this happen” Sibal told news agency ANI.
The IT department conducted searches at over 39 places in Karnataka, including the residential premises of Shivakumar and his brother in Delhi and Bengaluru since morning.
Officials also carried out searches at Eagleton Resort near Bengaluru this morning, where 44 Gujarat Congress MLAs have been lodged ahead of Rajya Sabha elections to prevent horse trading.
Speaking on introduction of NOTA in upcoming Rajya elections, Sibal said we are surprised that the Election Commision took such an unconstitutional step. We’ll talk about it in Court tomorrow.
Seeking an urgent hearing of the case, Sibal stated the petition before a bench will be headed by Justice Dipak Misra, who agreed to hear the petition Thursday.
As per the Congress, availability of NOTA option during the Rajya Sabha elections was contrary to the mandate of the Constitution, the Representation of People’s Act, the conduct of election rules as also judgments of the Supreme Court.
Following this the Congress approached to Supreme Court yesterday to sought urgent hearing on the issue.
