BJP using Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s death for votes: Former Prime Minister’s niece

New Delhi, Aug 23: Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s niece, Karuna Shukla on Thursday alleged that the Bhartiya Janata Party is politicising his death for the electoral gains.

“The way BJP is carrying around the country ashes of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, it is a show-off and for votes”, she said.

Shukla who is also a Congress leader hit out at Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh and his cabinet saying “they never remembered him until now especially when he had created the state”.

Vajpayee ashes will be immersed in all rivers across the country, with senior leaders participating in a procession that has been named as  “Atal Kalash Yatra” by the ruling saffron party.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah handed over urns with Vajpayee’s ashes to state party chiefs on Wednesday.

All the ministers and party leaders have been directed to organise yatras and condolence meets, as the urns are taken to rivers.

The party has asked all its ministers and MLAs to participate in the Kalash Yatra in their respective states.

Vajpayee took his last breath on August 16 and he was cremated on the next day with full state honour at Smriti Sthal in Delhi.
