June 19, Monday: The Congress refused to comment on Bharatiya Janta Party’s nominee for the upcoming presidential election, by saying the ruling party took a unilateral decision without discussing with the opposition.
On the presidential nominee announced by the NDA, we have no words to say. We don’t want to comment on the merits and demerits of the nominee…The opposition was given to understand that they will be taken into confidence,” Congress spokesperson Ghulam Nabi Azad said.
He stated, that the opposition did not expect this “unilateral” decision made by BJP, as the ruling party earlier said it will inform about the nominee but they did after revealing it.
When asked about the opposition’s next step, Azad said opposition will come up with a joint preference. To discuss consensus the opposition will meet on June 22 in the evening around 4 pm, most probably at the Parliamentary Library.
Ram Nath Kovind is the NDA’s choice for presidential candidate, who is currently serving as Bihar governor.
