BJP MP Om Birla to be new Lok Sabha speaker

New Delhi, June 18 Om Birla, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Kota, is likely to be the NDA candidate for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker.

The Lok Sabha session enters day 2 on Tuesday, BJP will be appointing MP Om Birla as the Speaker of the House and he is expected to file nominations around noon today.

Birla is a two-time MP from Kota and a three-time MLA from the Kota South Assembly seat. He defeated Ramnarain Meena of the Congress by a margin of around 2.79 lakh votes in the 2019 general elections.

Meanwhile, Om Birla’s wife Amit Birla told ANI that it is a very proud moment for the family. “It is a very proud and a happy moment for us. We are very thankful to the cabinet for choosing him,” she said.

Om Birla will be replacing previous Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan who did not contest the Lok Sabha elections this year.
