Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh:  Several people, including a BJP MP and a senior police officer, were injured on Thursday after two groups in Sahranpur clashed during the procession that was carried out to mark the Ambedkar Jayanti in Janakpuri area.

According to the police, a flag march was carried out in the village to mark BR Ambedkar’s birth anniversary in Sadak Dudhali village in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur. It was allegedly objected by members of another community who started pelting stones which turned into a bitter scuffle.

Reportedly despite the presence of DM and heavy police force, they pelted stones and situation went out of control. It is also reported that following the event BJP supporters are protesting outside SSP’s residence for biased move by the officials. They have sealed Ambala Haridwar National Highway.

From past seven year no rally was being carried out in this region. However this year after change in the state government, BJP MP called for permission to run a procession. The administration however refused to grant permission for holding out a march in this area. BJP MP has accused DM and SSP for favouring working in the influence of last government.

The case is registered against both the sides. BJP MP Raghav Lakhanpal, along with 8 other supporters, is booked in the case too.
