Lucknow, May 11: Amid the outrage over the presence of Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s portrait inside the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Savitri Bai Phule on Friday praised the Pakistan founder.
Hailing Jinnah, Phule called him as a ‘Mahapurush’ and said he had contributed in India’s freedom struggle.
She further said that wherever needed Jinnah’s potrait should be hanged.
Interstingly her remarks at the time when Jinnah’s portrait at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) sparked a huge row across the country, after BJP MP Satish Gautam had questioned university vice-chancellor Tariq Mansoor last week, that why the photograph was allowed.
In response to this AMU spokesman Shafey Kidwai said Jinnah was a founder of the university and was granted life membership of the student union.
Following this, on May 2, AMU students clashed with the cops seeking action against the Hindu Yuva Vahini protesters who were detained at a police station but allegedly allowed to leave after some time.
However, this is not the first time BJP MP from Bahraich Sadhvi has taken a rebellious stance against her own party.
Earlier, Phule criticised government’s Dalit outreach programme, saying that it is a “fake show” and would not help the party or the government.
Phule’s statement was in reference to the controversy over Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s minister Suresh Rana having a lavish food at a Dalit family’s house.
