BJP MLA booked for assaulting police constable

Bhopal, June 9: A Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Madhya Pradesh, Champalal Dewda has been booked for assaulting a constable inside the police station in Dewas district.

In the CCTV footage, Dewda can be seen repeatedly slapping and verbally abusing a constable.

The incident reportedly took place on Thursday night when Dewda’s nephew had entered a restricted area of the police station.

According to News18, the nephew took a water bottle from one of the accused, following which the constable questioned him.

This enraged the man, who entered into a heated argument with the constable and later informed his MLA uncle.

Later Dewda barged into the police station and started slapping the constable.

As per the media reports, a case was registered under Sections 353 (preventing a government servant from discharging his duty) and 332 (assaulting public servant) of the Indian Penal Code.

“The police offier stopped the MLA for some checking. After that, we got a report that MLA slapped one of our officers. Case has been registered & investigation is underway”, ANI quoted Anshuman Singh, SP Dewas as saying.

Reacting over the incident, Congress spokesperson Sangita Sharma stated even the policemen are not safe in the BJP-ruled Madhya Pradesh. “Every section of the society was harassed in CM Shivraj’s rule,” she alleged.
