New Delhi, Nov 10: “Padmavati” director Sanjay Leela Bhansali should be tried for treason for distorting history, BJP member Arjun Gupta has urged in a letter addressed to Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Padmavati , Padmavati case, sanjay leela bhansali case, anti national sanjay leela bhansali, treason sanjay leela bhansali

Gupta, who is the General Secretary of the Uttar Bharatiya Morcha, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), said something “disgusting” is being done in the pursuit of earning money and for boosting one’s career.

Referring to Bhansali, Gupta said that he has tried to malign Rani Padmavati’s sacrifice through “Padmavati”.

“The whole country, not just the Rajput community, is standing against it. He needs to be severely punished by being tried for treason for his attempt to distort history, so that in future any filmmaker is wary of these kind of projects.”

Gupta has also appealed that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to “not certify this film”.

“I am fully confident that my letter will taken into consideration, and a sedition case is run (registered) against Bhansali,” Gupta added.

“Padmavati” is slated to release on December 1, and there is brouhaha over it as various organisations have been targeting the filmmaker for distortion of history in the movie, touted as a “historical drama”.

Bhansali has repeatedly clarified that the film has no such scene between Rani Padmavati and invader Alauddin Khilji which can hurt sentiments.

BJP Minister threatens police superintendent, Says you were appointed due to ‘Casteism’

Pratapgarh, June 21: Rajasthan’s tribal affairs minister Nandlal Meena reportedly threatened the Superintendent of Police (SP) and asked him to work for the people of their caste.

In a gathering, Meena said “you have been posted here because of casteism, you have to support the people of your caste, or else we have other alternatives”, ABP news reported.

The Minister also allegedly made an alleged rape victim sit on the stage making her identity known. He has been witnessing widespread criticism for both the acts.

The whole incident is of Salamgarh district where a woman of the same tribe had alleged 5 upper caste men of raping her. The allegation was found baseless in police probe as rape was not confirmed in the medical test and the statements of the woman were also not convincing.

However, under political pressure, the police had to make arrest of two people and applied section 354, instead of 376, which had angered Meena and he threatened the SP, who was of the same caste as that of the victim and the minister.
