BJP leader Vinay Katiyar claims Taj Mahal is a Temple of Lord Shiva

New Delhi, October 18: BJP firebrand leader and MP Vinay Katiyar on Wednesday said claimed that the famous  Taj Mahal was a temple of Lord Shiva before it was captured by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.

His remarks comes days after BJP MLA Sangeet Som said the mausoleum is a “blot on Indian culture, following which it mired in controversy surrounding its history.

Katiyar said the  17th-century monument was a  a temple of Lord Shiva known as Tejo Mahal. Later, Shah Jahan buried his wife there.

However this is not the first time in a recent time that the famous monument became the talking point. As recently, the Uttar Pradesh government invited flak over leaving out the Unesco world heritage site from UP’s official tourism booklet.

After this, the state minister in charge of religious affairs and culture, Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary, had stated “The Taj Mahal was not a symbol of any religion and is nobody’s”, and that the monument had been “rightly kept out (of the tourism booklet).
