Kolkata, May 6: Soon after voting for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections commenced on Monday morning, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from West Bengal’s Barrackpore constituency Arjun Singh alleged that he was attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers.
“I was attacked by TMC goons who have been brought from outside. Those people were scaring away our voters. I am injured”, he told media.
Polling is bieng held in seven parliamentary constituencies including Barrackpore, Bangaon, Howrah, Uluberia, Sreerampur, Hooghly and Arambagh — are spread over North 24 Paganas, Howrah and Hooghly districts.
Voting in 18 out of the 42 Lok Sabha constituencies in West Bengal have been completed in the first four phases.
The subsequent phases of polling in the state will take place on May 12 and May 19.
