Bihar: Former RJD MP Shahabuddin’s nephew shot dead in Siwan

Patna, Feb 2: Yusuf, the nephew of former Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammad Shahabuddin, was shot dead in Siwan on Friday night.

Mohammad Yusuf was shot dead in Pratappur village, where Shahabuddin hails from. He was gunned down by unidentified assailants late on Friday, news agaency IANS quoted Siwan Superintendent of police Navin Chander Jha as saying.

The attackers pumped the bullets into his chest and Yusuf died on the spot,” Jha said, adding it was not yet clear what led to the murder.

Hundread of angry villagers, mostly Shahabussin’s supporters, blocked roads and demanded action.

Yusuf was known to be a close aide of Shahabuddin and reportedly used to look after the official work as well as the household of Shahabuddin.

The death of Yusuf comes less than a week after a Bihar court framed charges against Shahabuddin and seven others in connection with journalist Rajdev Ranjan’s murder case. Ranjan, the Siwan bureau chief of Hindi daily Hindustan, was shot dead in May 2016. He was gunned down by motorbike-borne criminals near the busy Station Road at Siwan in north Bihar.

Shahabuddin was elected four times as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Siwan. He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi and has more than 39 criminal cases, which include kidnapping and murder, filed against him.
