CHENNAI, July 14: Police detained at least 20 members of the Hindu Adiradipadai (Hindu rapid action force) who were protesting outside Tamil actor Kamal Haasan’s residence in the Eldams Road in Chennai over the controversial Bigg Boss Tamil matter.

The Hindu Adiradipadai alleged that the Bigg Boss reality show being aired by a Tamil TV channel portrayed women in a bad light and had discouraged Tamil culture.

The demonstration spearheaded by Hindu Adiradipadai state secretary Raja Guru reached near the actor’s house in Teynampet and started raising slogans against Kamal and the reality show.

Police personnel had already been pressed near his house as the police had prior information about the Hindu outfit’s move to hold a demonstration. The Teynampet police detained around 20 protesters in a community hall at Alwarpet.

On Wednesday, the Hindu Makkal Katchi lodged a complaint with the Chennai police commissioner alleging that Big Boss was airing “obscene content.” The complainant said that the show was “demeaning” to the Tamil culture and demanded the arrest of Hassan along with the show’s contestants.

On Wednesday evening, Kamal held a press conference and defended the show asking, “What is so objectionable about the content in Bigg Boss that is against Tamil culture,” he asked.
