Sridevi cremated with state honours, India bids tearful adieu to female superstar

Mumbai, Feb 28: People from all the corners of India, and indeed many other parts of the world on Wednesday paid last tributes to country’s first female superstar Sridevi.

Indian film actress Sridevi who died on February 24 in Dubai, cremated with full state honours.

Mortal remains of the Bollywood icon arrived in Mumbai last night, her funeral and last rites of Sridevi took place at Vile Parle Seva Samaj Crematorium and Hindu Cemetery, Next to Pawan Hans, SV Road, Vile Parle West.

Sridevi’s mortal remains had been kept in a glass case with her picture in front of it and garlands all over for the last tribute.

Meanwhile, Students of primary school owned by Sridevi’s kin also paid tributes to the actress in Sivakasi in Tamil Nadu.

Green Acres society, where the Indian film icon resided with her family, canceled Holi celebrations in view of the actor’s demise.

Hema Malini along with her daughter Esha Deol at also paid last respect to Sridevi.

Followed by last homage, her cremation will be held at Vile parle Seva Samaj Crematorium after 3.30 pm.

After the completion of investigation, the  suspense over the sudden death of legendary actress finally ended, as authorities released the Bollywood icon’s body to her family, three days after her demise.

Dubai Public Prosecution stated “the decision to release the body came after all the investigations and procedural matters followed in such incidents were completed, in order to determine all its circumstances and ensure that justice was done within the framework of the law”.

“Dubai Public Prosecution has approved the release of the body of the Indian actress Sridevi to her family following the completion of a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of her death”, said Dubai Media Office in a tweet.

Prior to this, the official page of Consulate General of India tweeted”Dubai Police has handed over the Consulate and the family members letters for the release of the mortal remains of the Indian cinema icon Sridevi Boney Kapoor so that they can proceed for embalming”.

As a part of its probe, the Dubai Police had also recorded the statement of Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor.

According to the Gulf News the filmmaker was called to the Bur Dubai police station for interrogation. The cops took his statement after which he was allowed to return to his hotel.

On Saturday evening, Sridevi drowned in the bathtub of room number 2201 at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel here.

The official Twitter account of Dubai Police on Monday dropped the word “accidental” from the actress’ death case.
