Bharat bandh: Dalit Protests turn violent, one killed in MP’s Morena

New Delhi, April 2: Dalit Protests turned violent at various places as one killed and 12 others injured in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena on Monday.

Protesters resort to stone pelting in Bhind during Bharat Bandh over the SC/ST Protection Act. Several vehicles were set on blaze.

Meanwhile, authorities imposed curfew in parts of Gwalior and Section 144 (prohibits assembly of more than 4 people in the area) imposed in Sagar.

An apparel showroom vandalized in Jaipur. While Shops were forcibly shut down by protesters in Dehradun.

In Hapur and Meerut (UP), thousands of agitators took streets to mark protest. Scores of vehicles are stranded on NH58 as the protesters have blocked roads and vandalised vehicles.

Three people, including two policemen, injured as police resort to lathi charge in Ajmer, Rajasthan according to Hindustan Times report.

News agency ANI reports several people have been injured in Ranchi after a clash between protesters and police.

In Meerut, protesters torched Shobhapur police post and damaged a car and motorcycle.

A number of Dalit organisations have called for a countrywide ‘bandh’ on Monday expressing concerns over the alleged “dilution” of SCs/STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
