New Delhi, Oct 6: Banwarilal Purohit on Friday took oath as the 25th governor of Tamil Nadu.
He relieved Maharashtra governor C. Vidyasagar Rao from his additional charge of Tamil Nadu, who was holding the post since 2016.
Purohit was appointed last week amid growing calls for a full-time governor. Prior to this he also served as the governor of Assam.
Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam, Deputy Lok Sabha Speaker M. Thambi Durai, Minister of State Pon. Radhakrishnan, Speaker of State Legislative Assembly P. Dhanapal and Leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin were present at the ceremony.
Judges of the Madras High Court, Chief Secretary Girija Vaidyanathan, DGP T.K. Rajendran and senior officials of the State government and members of the Consular Corps also made their presence.
