New Delhi, January 12: National Organisation of Bank Workers (NOBW) has requested Election Commission to exempt bank officials from election duties this time as they are already busy with demonetisation related work and approaching closure of financial year.

NOBW is an industrial federation of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh. The memorandum sent to EC reads as: “We request to the Finance Minister and Chief Election Commissioner to exempt bank employees and officers from the election duties otherwise banking will be affected and employees will be under tremendous pressure and stress.”

NOBW Vice President Ashwani Rana said bank employees who worked for 12 to 18 hours a day during the 50 days demonetisation deadline are still working extra hours to tally the details of old currency notes. Besides, we have to complete work for financial year closing by March 2017.

The assembly polls are scheduled from February 4 in five states—Punjab, Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Manipur from the next month.
