Baloch activist seeks political asylum in India

The founder of Baloch Republican Party (BRP), Brahamdagh Bugti on Monday informed that he would make an urgent request for a political asylum in India.

Bugti said that this decision was taken by his party in a central committee meeting.

“The meeting of our central committee ended today. And in the meeting the members of the central committee have decided with the majority that I will appeal for a political asylum in India,” Bugti told the media.

Bugti said that he would like to have a meet with the Indian embassy in Geneva.

“This decision has been taken and we will start working on it right away. Within two to three days, we will seek an appointment with the Indian embassy and we will present our case based on that,” he added.

Earlier, Bugti has said that he did not make a formal request to India for the asylum but he will reflect on it if given a chance in the future.

He said that Baloch people in Balochistan and Afghanistan are in a very difficult situation. A handful of people can move out in the Europe but rest of the people are living there only. Thus, they want the Indian government to open doors for them. He added that he is currently in Switzerland and if he gets an option to be in India, he would definitely come here.

When asked as to why he is seeking asylum in India, Bugti said, “India is our neighboring country. In Europe, even if a government or the immigration department knows the problem, the people don’t. But in India, the people know about our problems, we will have their support. We share the same culture. We will be closer to our people and our people can easily seek asylum there, and it is easier for them to reach there with their families.”

Also, Bugti’s party has also taken a decision to file criminal cases against the Generals of Pakistani Army at the International Criminal Courts.

Baloch activist and leaders constantly claim that Pakistan is the reason for the suffering of Baloch people and is involved in the genocide. He asserted that the human rights are violated in the Baloch region.
