Mumbai, March9: On the occasion of the International Womens Day on Wednesday, popular Bollywood celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra have come forward to celebrate the power of women and thank them for their various roles in life.

Chennai, May 20 : Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth, who has confirmed his entry into politics, on Sunday said the Supreme Court has ensured that justice is prevailed in the Karnataka political turmoil after the recent Assembly poll result which gave a fractured mandate.

Talking to reporters after a meeting with office-bearers of the women’s wing of Rajini Makkal Mandram at his Poes Garden residence here, he said it was wrong on the part of Karnataka Governor to grant 15 days’ time to Mr B S Yeddyurappa to prove his majority in the Assembly.

”Thankfully Justice was ensured by the Supreme Court.

It is a victory for democracy’, he said, about the resignation of the BJP government and the Governor inviting Congress-JD(S) combine to form the next government in Karnataka.

The one man BJP government headed by Mr Yeddyurappa was sworn in on Thursday, but he was forced to resign on Saturday as the BJP, which had won a mere 104 seats, failed to secure numbers for a majority, after the Supreme Court directed him to seek a trust vote immediately.

West Bengal Government to honour Asha Bhosle

Kolkata, May 19: Veteran singer Asha Bhosle will be honoured by the West Bengal government on May 21.

Asha on Saturday thanked the state government and said that she will receieve the award in person.

“My sincere thanks to the West Bengal Government for bestowing their highest civilian award on me. I shall receive the same in person in Kolkata on May 21,” Asha Bhosle tweeted.

Asha Bhosle has been a part of the Hindi film industry for over six decades and has sung numbers like “Zara sa jhoom loon main”, “Uden jab jab zulfen teri” and “In aankhon ki masti”.

Royal Wedding: Prince Harry, Meghan Markle marry at Windsor Castle

New Delhi, May 19: It’s the most anticipated wedding of the year: Prince Harry married US actress Meghan Markle in a ceremony at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle here on Saturday (May 19).

Meghan became the first royal bride to walk herself up the aisle at a royal wedding. She was met halfway by Prince Charles, the Duke of Cornwall, who walked her down the aisle of the Quire of the chapel. Her father Thomas Markle was unable to attend due to health issues.

The marriage between Harry, who is sixth in line to the throne, and Meghan, an American actor who lived for years in Toronto, has drawn intense interest worldwide.

Among the 600 celebrity guests invited to the St. George Chapel were internationally acclaimed Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham, Elton John, Tom Hardy, James Corden, James Blunt and Carey Mulligan among others.

Tennis star Serena Williams and rugby star Jonny Wilkinson were also present.

The ceremony took place in presence of Queen Elizabeth II, her husband Prince Philip, Prince William, his wife Catherine, Prince Harry’s uncle, Earl Spencer; the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson; and Catherine’s sister Pippa Middleton.

Harry and Markle becomeDuke and Duchess of Sussex on their Wedding Day: Queen Elizabeth II bestowed the dukedom on her grandson in the morning, with his wife-to-be automatically becoming a duchess. Prince Harry’s titles will be Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel.

“The Queen has today been pleased to confer a Dukedom on Prince Henry of Wales. His titles will be Duke of Sussex, Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel,” according to the royal statement.

“Prince Harry thus becomes His Royal Highness The Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle on marriage will become Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex,” it said.

The couple will wed at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle.
