Delhi, 29 August: Union Tourism and Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma has asked foreign tourists to not wear “skirts” and “skimpy clothes” while visiting small cities and “not roam around alone in the night for their own security”.
While talking to the media persons he said a welcome card is provided to tourists when they visit India. As per the do’s and don’ts on the card, women should not roam alone at night or wear skirts. Sharma elaborated helpline number 1363 to help foreign tourists. “We also suggest them to click photographs of number plates of cabs they travel in to, and send it to their friends so that the number is stored and circulated,” said Sharma.
“India”, the minister continued, is a “cultural country” and “we have a different dress code for temples. Kindly keep that in mind while dressing up.”
However, after making a remark he cleared that it was not his intention to suggest a dress code for any visitor.
